An intense summer rowing camp that is open to all junior rowing women who wish to improve their technique, fitness and racing skills. Southeast Juniors (SEJ) has the reputation for being a physically as well as mentally tough experience. Our programing is designed to push the athletes to increase racing speed and aspects of the sport necessary to prepare dynamic female athletes for the next level.
SEJ applicants should have prior competitive rowing experience and are committed to improving their fitness and rowing skills. Our roster is capped at 28 female campers max (12 U17, 12 U19, 4 coxswain). These slots will be highly competitive and should fill quickly. Camp selection is based on coaches recommendation, modest 2000m time standards or coxswain audio.
The majority of our U19 rowers are current high school rowers who will row in open-weight classes.
– U17 (turning 16 or less in current calendar year)
– U19 (turning 18 or less or full-time high school student in current calendar year)
There are no lightweight U17 or U19 at USRowing Club Nationals, Lightweight rowers will row in the open-weight classes or “row up” in the Intermediate lightweight races. Erg time recommendations for a 2K are at least 8:10 for 14-16 year old athletes and 7:50 or faster for those 17 and 18 years old. We will prioritize athletes who meet or exceed these standards.
SEJ is a three week program rowing out of the beautiful Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee ending after racing at USRowing Club Nationals. Athletes will experience a rigorous two week training program with up to four 60-minute training sessions per day. Focusing on boat moving skills and technique (blade work, body mechanics, and power application), flexibility, mental training, as well as nutrition to enhance performance on the ergometer as well as the water. SEJ does not cut, therefor all athletes that are accepted and attend the program will travel and compete the final week at the USRowing Club Nationals in Cincinnati, Ohio.
