An intense summer rowing camp open to all junior women who wish to improve their technique, fitness, erg score, and racing skills. Southeast Juniors (SEJ) has the reputation for being a physically as well as mentally tough training experience. Our programing is designed to push an athlete’s limit to increase performance aspects of the sport necessary to prepare dynamic female athletes for success at the next level.
SEJ applicants should have prior competitive rowing experience and a commitment to improving their fitness and boat moving skills. Our roster is capped at 32 female campers (U17, U19, max 4 coxswains). Camp slots are highly competitive and should fill quickly, as selection is based on coach’s recommendation, 2000m time standards, or coxswain audio. We encourage all interested athletes to apply, priority will be given to athletes who meet or exceed the camp recommended standards. Athletes that do not achieve the camp recommended standards will be placed on a waitlist for available slots.
The majority of our U19 rowers are current high school rowers which will row in open-weight junior classes at USRowing Club Nationals. There are no lightweight U17 or U19, lightweight rowers will row in the open-weight classes or “row up” in the intermediate lightweight races.
– U17 (turning 16 or less in current calendar year) 2K Erg time 8:15 or faster.
– U19 (turning 18 or less in current calendar year) 2K Erg time 7:50 or faster .
SEJ is a three week program rowing out of the beautiful Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee ending after racing at USRowing Club Nationals in Cincinnati, Ohio. Athletes will experience a rigorous two week training program with up to four 60-minute training sessions per day. Sessions focus on boat moving technique (blade work, body mechanics, and power application), flexibility, mental training, as well as nutrition. Athletes will be immersed in a culture to enhance performance on the ergometer as well as the water. SEJ does not cut, therefor all athletes that are accepted and attend the program will travel and compete the final week.
SEJ’s fee of $3,360 includes a $1200 non-refundable deposit that must be received 15 days after the camp application is accepted to reserve slot. The camp fee encompasses a SEJ uniform, hat, shirt, and gear bag, room and board at Baylor School. As well as regatta fees, lodging, meals, and transportation to and during USRowing Club Nationals. Camp fees do not include transportation to or from camp, or the required USRowing Championship Membership. Campers should bring spending money for trips “in-town” trips and purchases at the regatta.
